Dutch Robot Games I was the first International robot combat competition held in The Netherlands. It was held on the RC Indoor Winter Spectacle in IJsselhallen, Zwolle from 22nd-23rd December 2001. It took place in an arena that consisted of heavy metal crash-barriers and a wooden floor, 10 by 12 meters across so that it was strong enough to contain Heavyweights. To keep robots from flying out, car tyres were hung around it, which proved to be both effective and necessary. After three months of preparations, the entire arena and pits area was built within two days.

Unlike the Dutch Series of Robot Wars that took place in the UK, the Dutch Robot Games were seen as an initiative by dutch roboteers to organize live event robot games for audiences, and therefore, were not televised.

The first Dutch Robot Games featured three main competitions, the Dutch Championship for the Dutch entrants, the UK Championship for the British entrants and the International Championship that featured Belgian and German entrants competing alongside the British and Dutch entrants. The side events consisted of several melees and grudge matches and Robo Rugby that was contested by two pairs of British entrants.
