Overview[]

SlamJob (originally spelled Slam Job) (formerly known as S Jay)was a heavyweight robot that participated in the final three seasons of BattleBots. It was a somewhat pyramid-shaped robot with hinged wedges all around, which meant SlamJob was very hard to get underneath. It had two different axes; the Season 3.0 axe was a tire iron, this was replaced in Season 4.0 onwards with a pneumatic spiked axe. SlamJob did decently in BattleBots, almost always winning at least one fight every year and reached the quarterfinals in Season 4.0. SlamJob is most remembered for its clash with Nightmare during its rookie season, which sent it flying through the air, pieces of it scattered everywhere.

After being renamed SJ, it competed in ROBOLympics 2004-RoboGames 2010, as well as ComBots Cup I-III, and the 2004, and 2005 RFL Nationals. It was a Silver, four wheeled, wedge shaped (later box shaped) robot, armed with an axe which could double as a lifter. SJ did extremely well winning multiple medals, and even winning the 2004 RFL Nationals. SJ retired after RoboGames 2010, ending a long, and eventful career.

Slamjob in the pits at Season 3.0

Slam Job's first ever match was against Negative Reinforcement. For most of the match, Slam Job pushed Negative Reinforcement against the spikestrip and started hitting it with its axe. One of these hits caused Negative Reinforcement's batteries to break through the battery box and CO2 was leaking out, leaving it weaponless. In the end, the time ran out and Slam Job won on a 33-12 judge's decision. This win put Slam Job to the TV rounds, where it faced Gang Green Weasel.

Both robots went straight at each other and Slam Job hit Gang Green Weasel with its axe. Slam Job then pushed Gang Green Weasel against the arena wall and flipped it with its axe. Gang Green Weasel was on its rear and it eventually got back on the BattleBox floor. Slam Job pushed Gang Green Weasel to the killsaws as the Gang Green Weasel team started tapping out. Slam Job won by KO at 1:38 and advanced to the round of 32.

There, it would face the powerful vertical spinner of Nightmare. When the match started, Nightmare drove Slam Job with the intention of hitting one of Slam Job's sloped fronts. Nightmare got lucky though, hitting Slam Job's weapon shaft and sending Slam Job flying upside down, into the BattleBox corner, breaking the tank that powered the tire iron weapon and preventing Slam Job from being able to self-right. Nightmare was not undamaged as its weapon motor threads were torn free and the receiver that was taped in place was jarred loose. Nightmare and Slam Job were both immobilized and the battle was over in 34 seconds. In the end, Nightmare won on a 25-20 judge's decision and Slam Job was eliminated from the tournament.

Slam Job wasn't finished, however, as it participated the heavyweight consolation rumble at the end of the tournament. Before the rumble, Jim Smentowski of Team Nightmare was helping to fix Slam Job before the consolation rumble. However, they didn't check the axe after the armor was put on and the linkage bolt that powers that axe was hung on top of Slam Job. This meant that Slam Job's axe didn't work. Despite this, Slam Job almost survived the consolation rumble until the last minute after getting lifted by Little Sister. Slam Job stopped moving after its safety link popped out and the time ran out soon after. Little Sister and Kill-O-Amp won overall and Slam Job lost overall.

Slamjob Season 4.0 appearance

Due to its seeding, SlamJob was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 4.0, where it faced El Diablo Grande. Both robots went straight at each other and the collision sends El Diablo Grande up on SlamJob's wedge. SlamJob fired its axe, but it didn't connect. Both robots began pushing each other and both got caught on the killsaws. El Diablo Grande got its spinning drum under one of SlamJob's side skirts and stayed there to attack the components hidden underneath. SlamJob ran away before any apparent damage was done. SlamJob then pushed El Diablo Grande over the killsaws and El Diablo Grande got tossed onto SlamJob's front. SlamJob fired its axe again, but it still didn't connect. El Diablo Grande used its drum to bend the side skirt of SlamJob and SlamJob then hit El Diablo Grande with its axe.

As SlamJob kept going after El Diablo Grande, SlamJob pushed El Diablo Grande against the arena wall. El Diablo Grande tried to attack the rear side of SlamJob, but SlamJob started pushing El Diablo Grande backwards, forcing El Diablo Grande to run away. SlamJob hit El Diablo Grande again, but it glanced off of El Diablo Grande's drum. SlamJob pushed El Diablo Grande over the killsaws and El Diablo Grande's left tread got dislodged from the impact. SlamJob got another hit on El Diablo Grande and pushed it around the BattleBox. As El Diablo Grande was going around in circles, SlamJob pushed it over the killsaws and held it there as its opponent's left tread fully came off. SlamJob pushed El Diablo Grande to another set of killsaws before the time ran out. SlamJob won on a 33-12 judge's decision and advanced to the round of 32, where it faced Season 2.0 semifinalist frenZy.

SlamJob came across the box to frenZy before it could advance from its square, putting early pressure on. Both fired their axes, but missed each other. SlamJob turned around frenZy as they swung their long hammer, knocking themselves over. frenZy righted itself as SlamJob missed twice with its axe. frenZy swung but missed as well. SlamJob gathered frenZy up its front, striking twice with its axe while driving frenZy into the pulverizer. frenZy got away, but SlamJob came back in and struck frenZy with its axe again, proceeding to slam it into the wall. frenZy swung its hammer, but couldn't get a good shot as it was hitting the lexan. SlamJob ran away from frenZy and dodged another hammer blow as frenZy pursued them. Both met in the center of the box and missed each other some more, before SlamJob used its rear to push frenZy. All the while, frenZy scored some hits with its hammer before SlamJob backed off again. SlamJob and frenZy collided once more, but the killsaws lifted frenZy up and SlamJob put them on their head. frenZy struggled to right itself as SlamJob came in under the long arm, firing its axe and trapping the hammer of frenZy as it was on its side. frenZy tried to right itself again, but SlamJob stayed close and prevented it. frenZy finally righted itself, but it went directly on the killsaws and was spun around and back onto its head. frenZy finally got itself righted as SlamJob came in again, spiking frenZy and pushing them. frenZy managed to get two shots into the slot where the axe was, before it was slammed into the wall and onto the entrance ramp. SlamJob held frenZy there with its axe, but frenZy kept popping SlamJob, leaving a dent on the top and on the left skirt. frenZy got away and pursued SlamJob, only to get held down by SlamJob on the killsaws, flailing its hammer uselessly.

SlamJob pushed freny into the wall once more, but frenZy retaliated and landed more shots on the top of SlamJob. SlamJob pushed them once more, taking several shots from frenZy's hammer, but managing to push frenZy into the pulverizer once more. frenZy came out again, swinging at nothing till SlamJob came in and frenZy struck the corner seem to two of SlamJob's skirts. Once again, SlamJob pushed frenZy and took more shots on its top, before frenZy spun itself off. frenZy went back to the blue square briefly before coming back out and getting rammed into the wall. frenZy got out, swung its hammer and missed again as SlamJob struck the killsaws next to it. SlamJob caught frenZy with its spike again, but frenZy kept popping SlamJob as it was dragged around and into the wall again. frenZy got numerous shots on SlamJob's left skirt, leaving a giant dent while SlamJob pecked away at frenZy. frenZy drove over the saws once more to chase its opponent to the center of the arena, before SlamJob shunted frenZy onto another set of killsaws. frenZy missed its final hammer blow as the time ran out and went to the judges. SlamJob won on a close 23-22 split judge's decision and advanced to the round of 16, where it faced Incoming.

SlamJob won on a 34-11 judge's decision and advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time, where it faced Tazbot.

Both robots went straight at each other and SlamJob fires its axe, but missed. Tazbot got its lifting arm underneath SlamJob's front skirt and SlamJob fired its axe on Tazbot's lifting arm. SlamJob pushed Tazbot against the arena wall and SlamJob got caught on the ramrods. As Tazbot tried to get underneath SlamJob, SlamJob pushed Tazbot against the spikestrip. While this was happening, SlamJob's axe got caught on Tazbot's lifting arm. SlamJob was able to push Tazbot towards the screws and later dragged Tazbot on the killsaws. This actually damaged SlamJob's spiked hammer as its spike was

bent upwards. Both robots were separated around the killsaws and Tazbot charged into the side of SlamJob. Slamjob got caught on the killsaws and Tazbot attempted to lift SlamJob again. After more pushing between both robots, Tazbot got its lifting arm underneath SlamJob's front and lifted it from the front against the spikestrip. SlamJob got under Tazbot and pushed it on the killsaws again. The match ended with both robots pushing each other. Tazbot won on a close 24-21 judge's decision and SlamJob was eliminated from the tournament.

SlamJob wasn't finished, however, as it participated in the heavyweight royal rumble at the end of the tournament. It's unknown how well it performed, but it lost overall to Little Sister.
